Written around 150 years ago by Hans Christian Andersen, a Danish author, The Last Dream of the Old Oak Tree is a story of the seasons of life that ends on a note of hope and gratitude. The Last Dream of the Old Oak Tree has not lost any of its poignant beauty for readers today. Malaysian artist, Chooi Ling Keiong, has interpreted Andersen's story with her wonderfully realistic art work that bring to life the story’s simple yet profound message. This version produced by Oyez!Books has been modernised and simplified for today’s children but it is also a story that will resonate with adults. - Samsung Kidstime Author's Award 2016 Grand Prize Winner
Andersen’s own life was like a fairy tale. He was born into a poor family and his father died when he was only eleven. He didn’t enjoy school and didn’t know what he wanted to do. It was only when he was in his forties that his fairy tales were recognised. He is probably best known for The Little Mermaid, The Ugly Duckling, The Emperor’s New Clothes and The Little Match Girl.
CHOOI LING KEIONG graduated with a Diploma in Fine Art from the Kuala Lumpur College of Art in 2002. Her first picture book, The Sweet Potatoes, was published in 2014. She has also illustrated for newspapers and is currently working on another picture book.
